Shocker

Say NO! to Sushi products.

Jun 23 2011 11:00 PM | Sura in Shocker
Ever since Japanese nuclear accident in Sendai, there were some concerns of radioactive waters being freely bumped into sea.

As the matter became worse and worse with reports that the nuclear accident was the worst case scenario, consumption of sashimi and sushi products in Korea have been greatly decreasing.

For your information, sashimi is extremely popular in Korea. It's not expensive, either, so it is consumed on daily basis for many Koreans. Sashimi is more popular than sushi in general.

After Japanese nuclear accident, sushi shops saw a sharp decline in sales. Many sushi shops are now closed due to completely zero sales.
Sales of overall seafood is greatly decreased as well.

Sucks to be you, suck to be me

Jan 07 2011 12:00 AM | Sura in Shocker
A young woman was really tired.

Presumably, it was rush hour in evening. She nodded off, pretty hard as you can see form the photo taken by a cell phone.

If you are even a little observant, you probably can notice a man's hand on the woman's thigh.
Yep, he's molesting. Well, that can happen, I suppose. And if no one took that picture, it wouldn't have been an issue. The woman wouldn't have realized it, and the man wouldn't have been found.

Here is the thing. a young woman on the other side took pictures of the scene and uploaded them to her blog.

Here is another thing; she did not put mosaic on neither the woman's face nor the guy's face. The molester and the molested were quickly identified.

And here is strange thing; the molested was accused to be "perverted" and all kind of bad stuff while the molester took off lightly.

Huh? It probably has something to do with the way the blog was written (which by the way I have no idea of) and a fact that the molested might have been too provocative, which I agree somewhat. I mean, look at her. Her shoes are off and her hair is going haywire.

A cult for arranged marriages.

Jan 07 2011 12:00 AM | Sura in Shocker
Millions of people, millions of different thoughts, and obviously millions of different idiots.

So to speak.

Now, in Korea, there is a cult called "통일교". It's hard to translate that word because it's ridiculous. But I suppose I have to try translating that. "통일교" should be "United Church" in Korean if I simply translate it word by word.

What "United Church" does is to arrange marriages between eligible men and women (mostly men) for a fee.

The cult calls it "Blessed marriages" which is actually cursed marriages.

So to speak.

The source lists an example where a guy saw an ad for marriage counseling and actually pays a fee (whooping 6.000 bucks roughly) and actually got married to a "random" Japanese woman. The guy claims that he hoped to start a good family, but that shouts lack of common sense.

I mean, think about it. Arranged marriage and a happy family? And paying to have a random woman, a foreigner to add, to marry him?

I told myself as I read through the article: "What kind of jackass are ya?"

Well, the source explains how such cults scam people out of money. People have to pay a fee and then it usually takes 5 to 10 years to get married. Even then, the couple is not allowed to see each other until "education" is complete. Even then, they are allowed to sleep together only on "approved & arranged" dates. They attempt to brainwash you meanwhile.

These cults or agencies rely on Internet and newspaper ads, and they've been increasing in demand and popularity.

The source does not list reasons for that, but I have a good hunch.

Modern educated young women in Korea have extremely high standards for their potential mates. They must have above average income and then they must be physically fit. And then they must not be the first son of families because young women these days in Korea hate having to look after their husbands' parents.

Such standards have existed for a long time, but it remained to be small in numbers. In the past decade, however, that standard is becoming the norm.

The victims for such high standards are your average Joes who can't get a girl to marry him. These miserable sods result to these cults where they promise to get him married to "fine women".

You know, education makes people intelligent, but intelligence without proper wisdom is worse than having neither of these because intelligence brings higher expectations. Wisdom is required to counter and filter such expectations.

However, wisdom can neither be taught nor passed down. One has to learn it through aging and experience.

Wisdom is also something kids disapprove and reject of in general because they can't get it at will unlike intelligence.

When men can't do the job, ask women.

Oct 23 2010 10:00 PM | Sura in Shocker
Korea and FIFA worldcup have a strong relationship. Korea has been, since 1950, trying to make an impact on FIFA worldcup.

In 2002, Korea did make an impact on the world by being semi quarter final of worldcup. Nevertheless, they didn't win.

In 2010 FIFA U-17 women's worldcup, Korea won the worldcup. The victory was extra sweet because it was a match between Korea and Japan. And Korea won on penalties which was even sweeter.

The girls, when they arrived in Korea, were welcomed cheerfully and were interviewed shortly after. They mentioned that shaking hand with David Beckham was the most memorable.
One girl made a remark regarding the handshake with David Beckham, "I felt as if my soul was being sucked out of me."

Sura's personal words
The girls weren't supported well by Koreans except for financially. Though as they became closer to winning the worldcup, finally spotlight was being to shed upon them. Personally, I didn't even know there were U-17 worldcup and U-20. Well, I didn't even know there was women's worldcup. Korea's attention on women's worldcup was that small.

Really, not many expected them to win nor did they care. However, the victory has become a huge deal for Koreans especially since the final was Korea vs Japan.
What men has tried so hard in past 60 years and failed, women did it, though it can be argued that men's worldcup has much more competition and, well, it's true. But it is also true that the girl's team had indeed battled against the world.

Soruce : A lot.
Just few examples

When you have nothing better to do ...

Jul 25 2010 11:00 PM | Sura in Shocker
Just for a refresher, I posted a sexual harassment news previously,
"Hey, your breasts are big. Let me touch'em."

And now here is a new case. This time, a principal has been found harassing mothers of students, not just one mother, but three mothers.

The principal is in charge of an elementary school. Therefore, even though they may be "mothers", they'd be pretty young. Perhaps, that's why he went for it, or whatever. I personally don't want to think too deeply into such matters.

Either way, according to the source news, the principal is denying any sexual harassment charges, but three mothers are voicing up that they've been sexually harassed.

The three mothers confessed of their cases.

1. The principal called the mother and asked her to come to school where he said he'd give her a text book for her child where he apparently hugged and kissed her.

2. The principal is set to retire next month. Thus, he has been working on a book (Apparently memoirs). Then he asked a mother to look after school garden which was where he apparently performed sexual harassment.

3. The principal apparently asked if it was alright "to be friendly" with another mother in a car.

When proposal goes wrong ...

Jul 23 2010 11:00 PM | Sura in Shocker
Mr Park (26) met Miss Kim (25) in 2009.09.
They've been getting along well and they decided to get engaged. However, their engagement was brutally opposed by Miss Kim's parents, and Miss Kim was forbidden to see Mr Park anymore.

In a desperate attempt to restore his diminishing relationship with Miss Kim and her parents, he visited her apartment and falsely claimed to be a delivery man in order to enter. There was only Miss Kim's mother in the apartment at the moment.

Once entered, the mother realized who it was and demanded him to leave. Mr Park attempted to reason with her mother with no success.

In desperation, Mr Park harmed the mother's arm with a knife that he had originally brought with him.

Neighbors heard of screaming and immediately called the police. When the police arrived, Mr Park demanded to speak with Miss Kim.

Eventually, Mr Park was arrested and the mother was found dead in the apartment from excessive bleeding.

Mr Park confessed that he planned to get the mother out of the apartment for treatment, but he feared of the police rushing in, thus being captured. He said he really wanted to speak with Miss Kim for the last time which eventually cost life of Miss Kim's mother.

A newborn baby found in a tiolet of a PC room.

Jul 19 2010 11:00 PM | Sura in Shocker
A "PC room" in Korea is like an internet cafe, but it's much more dedicated to PC. You can think of it as a public PC gaming cafe.

Anyway, the news is that a newborn baby (less than a day year old) was found in a female washroom toilet of a PC room.

The newborn baby was found by another female customer who found traces of blood. 119 (911 for America) was called immediately. The baby is safe and sound.

It is speculated that the mother of the baby panicked and abandoned the child.

"Hey, your breasts are big. Let me touch...

Jul 17 2010 12:00 AM | Sura in Shocker
"Hey, your breasts are big. Let me touch'em."

Do you want to guess who said that?

A school principal said that to female students. 61 years old male, a principal of a high school in Korea.

That's not the only lewd statements he has made.

He has also been reported to have said, "Your beasts are big. You must have let your boyfriend play with them." as well as saying "Let me check how big yours have gotten."

Those are unbelievable words that came from an educated person such as a principal of a school.
He has been charged with sexual harassment.

However, he has stated that he does not remember making such statements. Still, numerous female students from his school claim all similar experiences and quotations.

What's worse is that the principal was supposed to retire on 31st of July. What a way to ruin one's career, I would say. His status as a principal has been revoked and his could-have-been perfect career ended absurdly just two weeks before its fulfilment.

Meanwhile, the fired principal denied having making such statements. However, he accepted the charges, saying "That must be how they remember me which makes me a failed teacher."

After 7 hours, he was arrested again for attempted rape.

It turned out that he attempted to rape a young female cashier in a convenience store which was 1km away from the prison.

Fortunately for the girl, a police was patrolling the area and heard her scream. The policeman battled the raper for 10 minutes until he was finally able to seize him.

Bullying goes one step above.

Jul 14 2010 12:00 AM | Sura in Shocker
It used to be high school kids who caused majority of troubles. There used to be some troublesome middle schoolers, but they weren't as bad as high schoolers.

Now, in Korea, it is becoming different. Trouble makers are becoming younger. Now, the prime age of troubles makers are 1315.

Yes, it's a new term referring to new kind of trouble makers. "1315" simply means age between 13 to 15. Those young kids go beyond bullying kids. Now they will not hesitate bullying teachers as well if they step in and try to stop bullying.

Especially, if teachers are female, the chances of these troublemakers fighting back go higher.

What's causing this ?

Experts say that parents are becoming careless as they tend to enjoy their lives more (ex : MMORPG) and often both parents work.

It has also been reported that most of children in Korea are the only child families have. The children say that they do not desire any siblings because that would mean less attention on them. By "attention", I don't mean love. I mean more gifts and allowances.

These new troublesome kids are now being referred as "1315".
