Absolutely. There are few thing in life more aesthetically pleasing than continuously speaking in upper crust dialogue downwards to lower trenchant people who shirk off their ineptitude by accusing you of trying to be smart.

^your last sentence made me happy for some strange reason. (although, I'm not making any kind of attempt to use big words.)

However, the most ironic word: Hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia (the fear of big words)

That is quite ironic. Maybe I should go look for a hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobic just to say this to them.

Ah, I use very formal English to piss off people during competitions who are wasting time trying to understand what I said in my contentions as they write with what they CX me.

But if you're CXing with a novice, the best question is somewhere along the lines of, "Please explain your case." because 90% percent of the time, they're just reading cards they got from their teammates and don't know what the hell they're saying.

And that would be mean. (if funny in a cruel way)

I did that to a newbie at this tournament. He spent his whole time babbling inanely that even the judge cried, "Answer the bleeping question!"

I later learned that his whole team's cases were made by the coach. Ah, gotta love flows.

Edit: It means cross-examining.

I don't quite understand. How would that make you feel old? If you feel comfortable answering, that is.

Same here. So I tried to look it up in a dictionary...no success...
so I looked it up with google...automobile by citroen? No sense...
so I spoke it out slowly...sounds naughty...doesn't really make sense in context...
so...I decided to wait for an explanation..."cross-examining"...sure...that makes sense.:ow:

Oh...and please continue...I just installed a one-click-dictionary that needs to be tested. :p

Well Lacrosse used to be LCX and the LAX. But Cross as a standalone liek they were using just didn't friggin make sense.

It stands for Cross-Ex, which is the shorter form of cross-examining. It is faster to write CX instead of a +X, though.

Cross-Ex, CX or Cross Examination are all different terms for a form of debate that is highly technical and fast paced. What both Silver and I are referring to, however, is the cross examination period in the debate from which CX derives it's name. However, I'm taking about CX debate in general, and she's talking about LD (Lincoln Douglass) which is sort of like CX and has a similar cross examination period.

I either just cleared things up or greatly obfuscated everything...

Confusion.

Public doesn't have CX.........Ah, I forgot Pofo (but they call it the "questioning period" in an attempt to distance themselves from anything policy). That's three out of four that have CX though... I was assuming we were talking about debate, but yes in trials they also have CX.

Which leads me to the question, is mock trial any good? Is it worth the time and energy?

Oh, I thought public did.

I don't think so. Sometimes I feel it is a waste of time. Mock trials does help to give experience, at least. Why not try it out, or ask around?

Edit: I didn't join because I am too busy.

Hm, I see. I was wondering if you did it since you referenced it.

But anyway, Public doesn't have CX, you just ask questions after the first minute of every speech. Which either means you don't ask questions or you ask a ton of questions to mess up the entire team. It's hard to know what the happy medium is though, since Public judges are as fickle as hell.

I believe all judges are fickle as hell. In fact, on my speech, I had this stupidest reason as to why I didn't speak well.

I had this one coach from college helping out our team who judged, but she was clearly bias against this kid 'cause he cracked this unwise joke about her, and stuff happened.
